Syllabus of BSc
The University of Mumbai introduced the Bachelor of Mass Media, a three-year integrated course leading to a degree in JOURNALISM or ADVERTISING, in the academic year 2000-2001. The course, comprising six semesters, covers various aspects of study related to mass media. A student can specialise in either Advertising or Journalism in the third and final year of the course.
Sophia College (autonomous) introduced the BMM course in the academic year 2003-2004. Keeping in mind the mission of the college, viz., the education and upliftment of young women, the need was felt to introduce this career-oriented course. Today, a large number of job opportunities are available in the fields of Advertising and Journalism, and a degree in Mass Media will equip students to avail themselves of these job opportunities.
It is an intensive course as the objectives of the course clearly indicate. Besides the usual subject lectures, guest lectures, workshops, seminars and field trips are also arranged. There is also an optional internship at the end of the second year.

Programme Objectives:
• To give learners in the programme a clear introduction to mass media as an all-encompassing ideological and communication experience globally
• To enable learners in the programme to understand the political, economic, social, cultural and environmental implications of consuming media messages
• To provide learners of the programme the opportunities to acquire the necessary skills to produce forms of media messages and content from advertising and journalism to public relations, branding, cinema and digital marketing, across different platforms
• To train learners in the programme through contemporary theory and practical application, in their role as future creators of media messages in a constantly evolving and demanding industry
• To teach learners in the programme the need for the ethical application of the ideas taught in the programme to become responsible consumers and producers of media content

At the end of three years of the BMM programme, the students will:
• Examine mass media as an all-encompassing ideological and communication experience globally
